After School Games Club

Dates: Tuesdays, from 3:45-5pmFebruary 28 – April 4.
Games club is offered school wide in 2 groups:
Grades 1-3 will be led by game-maker Janine Fron, who will be bringing in her homemade games to explain and play with the children.
“Play and make your own cooperative green games to enjoy with family and friends. Children will experience the magic of fairytales in Prairie Fairies and Princess on the Prairie, and from farm to table foodstuffs in Harvest Dreams, along with other heart-healthy green games.  Enliven rhythmical abilities, storytelling, and imaginative thinking. Cultivate cognitive skills, creativity, and collaboration in a socially dynamic way that values the participation of each player.  Cooperative games help prepare children for team work and belonging with a playful spirit.  Planned activities include storytelling, playtime, guided conversation, and handcrafts.”
Grades 4-8 will be led by Ms Kondrat.
Games club encourages patience, team-building and strategy. Ms Kondrat will lead the students in playing games such as various card games, Risk, Chess, Ticket to Ride and Settler of Catan.
Price includes 6 weeks of after school games and snack: $15 per class, $90 for 6 weeks. Drop ins welcome.
Please forward any questions to Ms. Ingold: ashley.ingold@urbanprairie.org

Biography and the Social Art

Veteran Waldorf teacher Paulette Arnold will return to Urban Prairie to lead another biography workshop.  She will cover the temperaments and how the events of the 7-14 age range and the 14-21 age range repeat themselves in subsequent periods of adulthood.  Biography work is invaluable in that it helps us to understand how the events of our own childhoods affect our parenting.  Prior participation in a biography workshop is not a prerequisite.

Please sign up here today to reserve your spot.

Looking for a Sitter?
Hiring a sitter in the city can be hard, but UPWS has you covered! We’re partnering with UrbanSitter to provide our school community with a fantastic childcare benefit. If you sign up through our special webpage (and enter GIVEUPWALDORF), UrbanSitter will donate $20 to our school after you hire your first sitter! Visit www.urbansitter.com/promo/ urbanprairiewaldorf for more information. Many parents are on there already, so you can trust the recommendations that they’ve given and hire sight unseen in some cases!
CHIditarod Food Drive

Once again Ms. Ingold will be participating in CHIditarod and needs UPWS to help raise over 69 pounds of food! Please bring in any food that is either canned or heavy! Anything is appreciated. The race is March 4th. See below to learn more:

CHIditarod is Chicago’s 100% volunteer-driven epic urban shopping cart race, charity food drive, costumed beauty pageant, talent show and chaos generator, all in one. It’s a micro-grant fundraiser for the CHIditarod Foundation, and probably the world’s largest mobile food drive, benefiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
