November Drop Off Volunteers

Holiday Wreath Sales

Once again this year, Urban Prairie is able to team up with City Garden to offer the lovely holiday wreaths we have all grown to love. These full, green, fragrant wreaths will be available for presale beginning on Monday, November 11th and concluding on Friday, November 22nd.  The cost for one is $35 and the cost for two is $60. The wreaths can be purchased through either school, with checks made payable to Urban Prairie Waldorf School. They will be available for pickup the week of December 2nd.  You will receive a confirmation email with pick up times and locations over the Thanksgiving break. Please contact Dona Nishi with any questions at parent.council@urbanprairie.org.

Warm Things Drive

Continue the celebration of Martinmas at home. Bring in gently used or new items of any size including coats, hats, scarves, mittens/gloves, boots, and blankets.  Items will be collected from the school beginning Monday, November 11th and concluding at the school assembly, Friday, November 22nd.

Holiday Fair Volunteers and Baked Goods needed!

Thank you to everyone who has committed time and energy toward crafts to sell, baked goods to make and volunteer hours the day of the Holiday Fair.

You can still sign up to help! Volunteers are needed for set up Friday and Saturday, 12/6 and 12/7, as well as to work at the UPWS table, in the cafe or at the kid’s craft table. In addition, we need your baked goods, gallons of cider and clean up help! Sign up HERE!

UPWS Parent Business Directory

Need a painter? A seamstress? An IT consultant? Advice from a beekeeper?

We will be creating a parent business directory to highlight all parent owned or operated businesses, including professional listings as well as any hobbies.  Inclusion in the UPWS Parent Business Directory publication is completely voluntary and free. Listings will include the business name, address, phone number and contact, plus a brief description of the business and/or hobby.

Please visit www.tads.com and enter your account information to update your enrollment profile by including your occupation, a spouse’s occupation and answer the question “ UPWS is a close knit community, and many families would like to use the services of community members if possible. To that end, we ask that parents identify their professions to be listed alongside their names in the directory.” We encourage all UPWS families to support the businesses of fellow UPWS school families. The development of community support among parents strengthens the common bonds that our parents share through their children and their association with UPWS. Any questions?  Please contact Catherine Morris at cat_morris@usa.net.

Target wants to help Urban Prairie! If you have a Target Red Card, designate Urban Prairie Waldorf School as your school. Target will donate up to 1% of your REDcard purchases at Target stores in the U.S and at Target.com. They send the school a check each year! Right now, six parents are signed up for this program and have raised over $1000.00. Can we raise that number this year? Applications are available in the office or at your local Target Store’s Customer Service desk.

Holiday Fair Workshop Schedule

As you know, City Garden and Urban Prairie work together to host a wonderful Holiday Fair, and we need everyone’s help to make the event successful. There are many ways to participate–from baking something for the cafe (details to be distributed closer to the event) to donating items, and attending crafting workshops.

Red Wine / Non-Alcoholic Cider Donation

We’re collecting red wine and non-alcoholic apple cider donations throughout November. We’ll be using it to serve yummy drinks at Christmas Fair. Make sure you donate cheap red wine, as glogg is always better with inexpensive wines. We’re in need of many bottles yet! Also, non-alcoholic apple cider should be shelf stable in order to last until December.  Feel free to donate during drop off and pick up. In addition bring along with you during the various workshops and parent evenings. There will be bins to drop them in. Any questions ask the Wine Lady, NaTasha DeNeal ndeneal@gmail.com, 708-261-1705. THANK YOU!

Holiday Workshops!

Whether or not you consider yourself crafty, you can make beautiful items!

UPWS Crafting Workshops are held downstairs at Urban Prairie at 8:30am.

  •  Friday, November 15 - Sewing (crayon rolls)
  • Monday, November 18 - Magic Wool Fairies

All the currently scheduled UPWS crafting workshops take place during weekday mornings.  We realize that this may not work for a large number of families and wanted to pass on the City Garden workshop schedule as all of theirs are scheduled for weeknights.   All workshops are held at 7:30pm at City Garden.

  •  Saturday, Nov 9 11:00am – Felted Trees and Ornaments
  • Thursday, Nov 14, 7:30pm – Sugar Cookie Decorating
Boot camp at City Garden

If you are interested in joining City Garden parents and teachers for boot camp, there is room for you, even if you just want to attend once in awhile. We meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 1:40pm. The class is led by Rachel Lavin, a seasoned trainer with martial arts experience.  Come and try one class for free.  You’re going to love it!  The monthly cost for the 3 day/week program is $150. To register, call Rachel at 773-251-7874.
